In the ancient world, the liver was believed to be the ebb and flow of life. It was not until 1628 when William Harvey dispelled this myth and proved that the heart was indeed the powerhouse of life. In his findings, he showed that the heart does more than pump blood.
Science has told us that, on average, the daily heartbeat is 100,000. As it pumps, it provides the body with nutrients as well as oxygen. In addition to pumping blood, it also aids in regulating body temperature and ensuring that the body fluids are balanced.
Since the heart is a vital organ, it is only natural to ensure that it is well taken care of so that it performs optimally. There are many recommendations, but there are three that I think are essential. The first is to ensure that you eat the right kinds of food, ensuring that you include magnesium-based foods in your diet. Regular exercise and routine checkups are essential, as well.
The health of the emotional heart is equally important, and it is something that you should be keen on as well. Essentially, the emotional heart is the gateway for the soul and the center for all human emotions. It determines human actions, speech, and thoughts. To lead a happy and healthy life, you need to prioritize the emotional heart since it is the wellspring of life.
Now is a great time to pause to evaluate the state of your emotional heart.

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heartHelen Keller
I must admit that mastery of the emotional heart is not an easy thing. It is, however, not far fetched since there are people who have mastered it. In my opinion, there are several lessons that the emotional heart can learn from the physical heart.
Here are some of my thoughts.
1. Find balance
One of the things that will strike you when you study the human heart is balance. The heart has various compartments that ensure that oxygenated and deoxygenated blood does not mix.
Many times we stretch ourselves by taking actions that overwhelm the emotional heart. If you feel that your emotional heart is overwhelmed, take a step back, and find a way to bring back the much-needed balance. Finding the sweet spot where balance resides will help you enjoy life more.
Perhaps the right word to use is coherence. In this context, coherence means a state where the mind, feelings, and emotional heart are in perfect alignment. Raising coherence will help you enjoy living a fulfilling and enriched life.
2. The heart speaks
One fascinating thing I learned about the physical heart is that it speaks. The physical heart usually sends electrical signals to the brain, telling it the chemicals it needs to release.
Even though you may not see it or hear it, there is constant communication going on between the heart and the brain. This conversation is not limited to the brain but other organs of the body as well.
I believe the emotional heart is always speaking. The question is, are you too busy to listen?
If the physical heart does speak, then the emotional heart must speak too. It is important to tune in and listen to your emotional heart. When you do, you will learn more about life and understand yourself better.
3. Know the rhythm of your own heart
The physical heart keeps a rhythm. Like clockwork, every bodily function takes place, and you do not have to even think about it.
Do you know the rhythm of your emotional heart? Are there patterns that you can learn or unlearn?
There is something about rhythm and dancing. Knowing the rhythm of your emotional heart will help you get in tune with the dance of life. So follow the music, make up your tune, and learn the art of happiness.
4. Decode the pattern of your heart
Another thing that amazes me about the human heart is the size. The human heart is about the size of the fist. In many aspects, it is hard to imagine that an organ that size can organize and network the entire body. When you think about it, veins capillaries, aortas, and other transmitters are connected to this organ.
In comparison, the emotional heart is no exception. Since the emotional heart is a gateway to the soul it must have several networks. I tend to think of the emotional heart as a command center of sorts of networking speech, thoughts as well as feelings.
Take time to study your own emotional heart. Doing so will help you understand how it responds to different triggers. There are thoughts, memories, actions, as well as tasks that bring you joy. Find out what they are and do more of such activities regularly, and it will amaze you how your life will change for the better.
5. Guard your heart
Someone once said that everything precious is hidden. The physical heart is a great example. There is a lesson we can learn from the heart being safely in the ribcage.
Understanding your emotional heart will help you learn how to guard it better.
When you understand your emotional heart, it will be easy for you to nurture and nourish it towards the right things.
Do you need an emotional heart check?
The heart of the matter, is always the matter of the heart.
Until the next post, let your soul sing!
